Back when newspapers still published people's full addresses in articles, they also sometimes published
poetry. (I think it was considered a family interest thing to do.) Luckily, through my dad, I had a small
'in' with the Michigan Chronicle and was able to publish a poem there, at age nine. My first byline. My
dad always said, "You don't really know if you want to be a writer, until you've seen your name in
print." Well, let's just say that seeing my first byline made me know it even more.
